MetroSouth Medical Center

Over a Century of Care for Our Community

Here at MetroSouth Medical Center, our roots run deep in the Blue Island community. It began in 1905, when St. Francis Hospital opened its doors in a private residence on Gregory Street. Within weeks, that location was too small, and the hospital soon expanded to a capacity of 30 patients. Growing with the community for the next 103 years, St. Francis expanded its services and facilities, with major additions to the hospital in 1916 and 1948. Along the way, the hospital earned a national reputation as a leader in cardiovascular primary care.

On July 30, 2008, a new chapter in the hospital’s history began with a rededication under new ownership and a new name. Today, MetroSouth Medical Center is located on a 12-acre campus in the heart of Blue Island’s uptown commercial business district. Moving forward, we believe the best way to embrace our history and our long legacy of service is to become the most trusted and sought after hospital on Chicago’s South Side by both patients and medical professionals. At MetroSouth Medical Center, we are redefining what it means to be a progressive community hospital by combining the best practices in medicine with the best in sustainable business practices.
