2014 New Laws

Thanks Alsip Police Department for the reminders about new IL laws take effect Jan 1st

New Illinois laws go into effect on January 1st, including a ban on cellphone usage and increased penalties for speeding.

All handheld cellphone usage while driving is banned. Bluetooth/voice-activated conversations are allowed, and exemptions are made for those calling 9-1-1 to report an emergency or if your vehicle is parked on the shoulder of a roadway. As before, texting while driving is against Illinois law as well.

Speeding 26mph over the speed limit is a misdemeanor (an arrestable offense).

Please drive carefully and have a safe and happy new year.
